Protecting the Public Process
With the completion of the US Forest Service public comment period for the Western Montana Planning Zone (WMPZ), Friends of Lolo Peak's primary concern is that the public process is allowed to work as it should with no political interference. The public process during the development of the draft management plan was one of the most open and transparent processes that many of us have ever experienced with the Forest Service. We participated in all public meetings and had great discussions with groups representing a wide variety of interests.
Friends of Lolo Peak has been assured by the Missoula County Commissioners and all three Montana delegates that they remain committed to allowing the public voice to be heard and that the analysis of the comments received by the WMPZ together with the USFS’s science based recommendations will be the determinants for the management plan when it is released next year.
